BWCA Entry Point Quotas
Information provided by USFS, January 2012
The US Forest Service has adjusted quotas for a number of entry points that were impacted by the 2011 Pagami Creek Fire. Campsites have been evaluated to determine which sites need to be temporarily closed for the 2012 camping season.
The table below displays the entry point, quota, the reduced quota and rationale for quota reduction.
Campsite, portage and trail restoration work will begin this spring, with most work accomplished in the early part of the season to reduce impact to wilderness visitors. Quotas will be adjusted as campsites are reopened.
Oct 16, 2011 Fire Report Update
TODAY'S MESSAGE: The fire remains 92,682 acres and 90% containment. Strong winds in the past two days have hampered both crew removal and equipment haul back from the fire lines.
Yesterday high winds made aviation operations unsafe so they shut down at 3:00 pm .
BWCAW Wildfire Update - Oct 14, 2011
TODAY'S MESSAGE: Containment for the Pagami Creek fire has grown to 89%. The fire remains 92,682 acres in size. Rain fell across the entire fire area yesterday and some parts received over 1” of precipitation.
September BWCA canoe trips
It's not too late to plan your fall canoe trip. September is a great time to canoe and travel the Boundary Waters (BWCA) or Quetico. This time of year you will see a decline in the number of visitors in the park, fishing is pretty decent and bugs are gone. Not to mention, if you time it correctly, you could catch the beautiful fall colors. The leaves typically change early September. Don't forget to pack your camera!
Canoe Season is Around the Corner
Canoes are just waiting for you here at Spirit of the Wilderness! OK, maybe it will still be a few more months until we have open water and the snow melts. We just get excited, here at Spirit of the Wilderness Outfitters, for the coming canoe season. This is about the time we get a little anxious to see some of that warmer spring weather.
