Need an inexpensive but comfortable accommodation the night before or after your adventure? Reserve a night in our bunkhouse.

Our facility is within walking distance of our store and a short hike to downtown. We ask you to provide your own sleeping bag, unless you choose a complete outfitted trip, then use one of ours. Shower with towel and and refrigerator included. Plenty of off-street parking.

Reserve early as space is limited.

Spirit of the Wilderness Outfitting and Outdoor Store is located on the east end of Ely, Minnesota. We are centrally located to service all Ely area Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness permit entry points. Our guests find us an easy one-stop shop before they head into the BWCAW or Canada’s Quetico Park to the north.

Don’t have the right gear? Spirit of the Wilderness can supply all the gear you will need for your trip. We start with you and ask the important questions:

  • What kind of trip you are looking for?
  • What length of a trip?
  • Challenging trip or easy going?
  • Will you travel to a different campsite each day or base camp with short exploring day-trips?
  • What are your primary interests? Fishing? Photography? Historical sites? Wildlife?

Our current specials are:

  • Rent a canoe for 5 days or more and get ONE DAY FREE!

  • Book complete outfitting for 8 or more adults, 1 person goes at NO CHARGE.
  • Book a 4 day/3 night complete outfitting trip for $299.00/person (regularly $360). Confirm by April 1
